FK&Y is delighted to be shortlisted tonight for the prestigious MRS Silver Medal, awarded to the best paper to appear in the IJMR the previous year. Agnes Nairn and Barbie Clarke’s paper ‘Researching children: are we getting it right? A discussion of ethics’ has already won the MRS award for Best Collaborative Paper.
Too young for Technology: FK&Y’s Barbie Clarke appeared on ITV’s Tonight programme to discuss the use of technology by very young children. Barbie argued that since young children grow up surrounded by technology parents should be encouraged to impose boundaries to limit its use.
MRS Kids’ Conference

The MRS kids’ conference today saw Barbie Clarke appearing on the keynote panel alongside Richard Ellis from Disney and Alison Preston from Ofcom. Ably chaired by Greg Childs, Director of the Children’s Media Foundation the panel discussed technology and family dynamics. Barbie also ran the discussion panel on Freemium Apps with speakers Maria Southgate from the OFT, Marc Goodchild from the Children’s Media Foundation and Dr Lynn Whitaker, University of Glasgow.
Filming for IKEA

Barbie was in Stockholm today making a film on behalf of IKEA about child development and ages and stages. IKEA caters for children up to 12 years. FK&Y conducted the Play Report on behalf of IKEA and this has led to the launch of the ‘Living with Children’ initiative.
FK&Y carried out focus groups and online research with teachers, parents and pupils in schools using one-to-one Tablets on behalf of Tablets for Schools. Full reports can be downloaded on the Tablets for Schools website.
Already winner of the MRS prize ‘IJMR Collaborative Research Award 2012’, the paper is an honest and comprehensive review of the ethics of carrying out research with children and young people. The results of this latest award will be announced in December.
