Based on research with its clients FK&Y has identified key areas of interest for companies and organisations working with children, young people and their families, and will be producing robust literature based research reports on topics of interest. Dr Barbie Clarke co-wrote the literature review with colleagues at the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge: Professor Colleen McLaughlin, Dr Carol Holliday and Sonia Illie. FK&Y is working with Honywood School, Coggeshall, Essex to train 32 young people from Years 7,8,9 and 10 in research methodology. A workshop was held at the school at which young people designed a questionnaire, and learnt ways in which to run a focus group. We look forward to working with our Honywood Researchers for the rest of this term.

FK&Y joined many of the Tablets for Schools sponsors at Greenford High School, Ealing. We were taken around the school by Year 7’s who told us what they liked most about using one-to-one devices at school and at home.

FK&Y hosted a Dinosaur Summit at our offices in Marylebone. An eclectic mix of experts from Random House, The Natural History Museum, Immediate Media, Early Years academics, and Digital and multi-platform experts joined us to discuss all things Dinosaur. It was enlightening and fun.

Family Kids & Youth’s Barbie Clarke discussed children’s safe use of social networking sites on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour on Tuesday 5 February which was Safer Internet Day. Organised by 70 countries, Safer Internet Day aims to raise awareness of the challenges faced to ensure children are protected online. Safer Internet Day
